Our Story
Crooked Hearts presents a new publishing model and has a compelling story — three women 55+, realize that this is an extraordinary creative time for women and yet the venues to share that creativity are extremely limited. Therefore, we set out to alter the publishing landscape to make sure these important voices are heard. Memory, desire, and life experience accumulate over time to provide an older woman writer new tones, preoccupations, and perhaps, wisdom.
Meet the founders - Barbara & Janice
Janice Dewey and Barbara Allen started Crooked Hearts to address the absence of older women writers in the current publishing world. Crooked Hearts will honor both beginning and veteran writers in various genres. Both women have been part of the poetry community in Tucson, Arizona for many years. Together, Janice Dewey and Barbara Allen bring to this endeavor their backgrounds in teaching, writing, ranching, traveling and arts administration.
